Introduction to a Davis

My name is Carli Davis. I used to be Carli Bishop, but my best friend decided he liked his name better, so he gave it to me along with a ring and a wedding date: August 12, 2017.

I am an artist, I dabble in do it yourself projects, and I try to cookout as often as I cook in (hello, steak). I am a senior computer engineering student here at the University of Oklahoma. I recently landed an internship in Kansas City for Burns & McDonnell (an engineering consulting company), and they liked me so much that they gave me a co-op and a job. The movie I have watched the most often in my life is most likely a three-way tie between The Wizard of Oz, The Phantom of the Opera, and The Guardians of the Galaxy by Marvel Studios. I am a Jesus follower and a comedy lover.

Husband and I actually got to go to Cancun, Mexico this summer for our honeymoon. Yes, this was all inclusive, relaxing, and everything I thought a honeymoon should be. I am sometimes a dedicated binge watcher: exclusively for The Office, Friends, and Parks and Rec

I am trying to decorate my new tiny studio apartment with coffee-brown furnishings, but apparently there are 5000 more colors of brown than I thought there were. However, a toaster oven goes with any color of brown, so I think we are pretty well set.

Swimming is a great sport. It's actually my second favorite activity to watch when the Olympics are in season after beach volleyball. Katie Ledecky is a stud, and I hope she goes far.

Buffalo Wild Wings has got to be my favorite second day food. You know, most fast/semi fast food does not taste as good the second day. I can think of many examples, including Chillis, IHOP, Subway. B-dubs, though, is consistently just as good the second day.

If I had one day to do anything, I would go to a peach orchard in the early summer with a big basket and a book. This is seemingly random, yes, but I grew up close to a peach orchard, and there is no smell quite like the sweet smell of peaches in the summer.

I gently touched on many subjects about myself that seemed to be interesting. If you have any
"That is very interesting" or "How can I be like you" comments or questions, please feel free to drop those into the comments section. Thank you for reading!

  1. Congratulations on getting married, Carli! And it is still your honeymoon (honey-month). How wonderful! And congratulations also on your Kansas City posting: that is such a fun city too! And listen, the Wizard of Oz is not a reading unit for class (it's a little bit too long to work as a reading unit), but it would make such a great project. Have you read the book? It is quite different from the movie in lots of ways, especially in the fact that Oz is REAL, not just a dream that Dorothy has. Here's the book online: The Wonderful Wizard of Oz ... and it is just one of a whole series of Oz books: List of Oz books. Very fun stuff! If you want to read any of the Oz books for extra credit, let me know and I can break that up into parts you can use for any number of weeks as extra reading. :-)

  2. Everything about your post was so unbelievably cute! I am so happy for you! I am in love with how you started off your blog post! I also love do it yourself projects and I often binge watch the Office, Friends, and Parks and Rec as well, I can definitely quote lines and find myself applying situations in the show to things that happen to me. I am in love with swimming too along with beach volleyball. Your picture is also too cute, what a picture perfect couple!

  3. Hi, Carli! Your blog post was so sweet and cute! Congratulations on your recent marriage! I LOVE the idea of relaxing in the peach orchard. I wish I could say that that was something that I have experienced at this point in time, but it sounds like a complete and utter dream. I would love nothing more than to trade my spot in the Union currently for a spot under a big tree surrounded by such a smell with a good book. Congratulations on your new job position as well, that is so exciting!

  4. Hey Carli. The Office, Friends, and Parks and Rec are the best sitcoms of all time ever. Period. Beets, bears, battle-star galactica. As far as the second day food goes, pizza has to be the best second day, even sometimes, second week food. I have had second day IHOP, and I don't even like first day IHOP, but each pancake to their own. I am not sure if you are aware but Oklahoma has quite a few peach festivals earlier on in the summer, you should look them up!

  5. Hi Carli! Love your post — congrats on your wedding and on your job! Your writing style flows so easily and your topics are so sweet! Love the peach orchard idea — that sounds like a beautiful way to spend a day. I'm an artist and love to cook as well — what's your favorite medium? And I've noticed several other commenters mention your binge watching choices, so I'm glad all of us in this class are united by a love of The Office and Parks and Rec (I can quote whole scenes at this point!). Also, I must admit that I've never had Buffalo Wild Wings, but reading this made me really want to try it.

  6. Hi Carli! Congrats on your recent wedding and on your job! Seems like things are going great for you, and I hope the semester is off to a good start for you. I love that your ideal day would be spent in a peach orchard — I have sweet memories of these big peach trees my family had in the backyard growing up. Some years we'd have 40 pounds of peaches, and my mom made them into preserves and all sorts of yummy treats. So delicious!

  7. What's up Carli! You might not remember me but we met freshman year at the Women's Welcome. I didn't know you got married. Congratulations! I didn't know that we had so much in common. I shadowed at Burns and McDonnell for a day in high school and I love Phantom of the Opera too! It was great to run into you again and I hope you have a great senior year!

  8. • Carli, congratulations on the wedding and the job. I also really enjoy cooking out. The best thing about Oklahoma weather is that you can almost cookout all year long. I am in the process of remodeling my bathroom and I too was surprised by how many shades of blue there are for paints. I finally went with one that had a fun name “Charismatic Sky”.

  9. Wow congratulations on your HUGE step in life! You have all my best wishes and thoughts as you and your husband find your paths through life together. I too binge The Office and Parks and Rec (multiple times but who cares right?). I would also be lying if I didn't say I wasn't jealous of your honeymoon to Cancun. I bet it was a well needed vacation!

  10. Hi Carli! The first paragraph in your introduction is super adorable. I just start on The Office and absolutely love it. Something to make laugh and relax from a stressful semester indeed. I love chicken and Buffalo Wild Wings is somewhere I go to when I am too lazy to cook myself. Congratulation on your new job position, good luck and I wish you all the best!

  11. Hi Carli! I really liked your introduction (very clever)! Congratulations on getting married, what an exciting time during your life. I am happy you enjoyed Cancun. Staying somewhere that is all inclusive is always a bonus because everything is paid for in advance and you can have as much as you want of it. Good luck on decorating your studio-apartment!

I really liked reading through your introduction and I think your layout is so cool! (I like the jellybean background lol ) Also, Congratulations on getting married! 13. Hey Carli! I absolutely love the jelly bean background! That is so strange to think that people are getting married in my classes! I am definitely waiting until I am out of college and feel more responsible, but I am sure you are doing it for all the right reasons. Have fun on your honeymoon! Oh and also be safe!

I am not very good, but I always say it is the thought that counts. The Wizard of OZ and the Phantom of the Opera are two of my favorite movies as well. A couple of summers ago I actually got to see Phantom of the Opera on Broadway! I highly recommend it. Good Luck this semester!

  18. Hi, Carli! Congrats on getting married, I know I’m two months late but still. Congrats on the job as well. I’m curious, what would you say is your favorite episode of Parks and Rec? I understand the color issue, I wanted to paint my room one color and found that were hundreds of variety of that one color. I really like you last paragraph, it ended the introduction on a good note. I hope you have a good year!

  22. Hi Carli!
The way you introduce yourself has got to be one of the most creative ways I have ever seen. That was so cute! Congrats on your marriage! The two of you look great together. I am very interested in your comments regarding foods that don't taste good the second day, and I have to say, I never have thought of that before and now I totally agree. It's so cool that you grew up near a peach orchard as well! Are there any pictures on your blog? I am glad I got to meet you before the semester was over. Good luck with the few weeks that remain!

  23. Hey Carli!
It is good to meet you. Even if it is really late in the semester. Congratulations on your marriage and your job. Those are two huge steps you are taking and something that is so exciting and scary at the same time. Im also a huge office, friends, and parks and rec fan and I have to admit I binge watch all three still. They're just so good and Ive seen all the episodes so many times. Since you like peaches I was wondering if you have ever been to the Porter Peach Festival? Porter peaches are the best I have ever had!

  25. Hi Carli!
First off, I want to say congratulations on your marriage! It's so awesome that you found your soulmate. I wish I got to Cancun this summer because that sounds like a whole lot of fun. I see that we have one thing in common and that is TV shows. Friends is literally my favorite TV show. I binged watched it this semester and ended up finishing it a lot quicker than I hope. The ending was absolutely the best.
